Sean Banks
Security Coordinator
Sean Banks is the Security Coordinator and US Coast Guard Liaison for Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA (IVXP) in Decatur Alabama. Prior to his time with IVXP, Sean spent four years as the security coordinator for BP at the same location. Starting his security career, Sean served 24 years in the US Air Force as a Security Police, growing an extensive background in multiple security disciplines including; physical security, base and instillation security, personnel security, anti-terrorism, force protection, law enforcement and logistics while serving his country. After retiring from the military, Sean work as a defense contractor for Northop Grumman at Al Mubarak Airbase in Kuwait. In this role Sean used his security experience writing security plans and programs for the 387 Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron.
Sean was born and raised in Chicago Illinois and enlisted after graduating from Dunbar Vocational high school where his focus was on Plumbing and Pipefitting. Sean has traveled across the US and over 20 countries around the globe. Sean continued his education during his time in the military, earning a bachelors’ degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University. After working with the Decatur/Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, Sean was compelled to continue his community involvement and earned a Masters’ Degree in Human Services and is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Human Services Administration from Walden University.
In addition to being an active member of ASIS International for the past 5 years, Sean is the Co-Chair for the Northern Alabama Area Maritime Security Council. Additionally, Sean is a member of the National Organization for Human Services, the Golden Key International Honor Society member, and a former Sergeant at Arms with the American Legion (Post 2222), receiving the Pioneer Award in 2007. Sean has been married to Inga Banks for over 25 years and is a father of three (Jasmine, Natalia, and Sean-William) and a grandfather to 2 year old Ethan. In his spare time Sean is an adjunct professor at Lees McRae College and is learning to play the pedal harp.
